Judged Musicale Application

  1. The first judged musicale of each year will be for students ages 11 and under, playing any level of repertoire. The second judged musicale will be for students age 12 and older, playing any level of repertoire. The judges at each judged musicale will choose up to four outstanding students for the annual Honors Recital. Decisions by judges, based on the musicale rubric, will be final.

  2. Each judged musicale will be limited to the first 16 applications. Teachers with applications received after the quota has been filled will be notified immediately.

  3. Soloists must play from memory. Ensembles may use music and at least one of the performers must be a student of a PBCMTA teacher. Teachers may perform with their students. Only one memorized piece or movement will be performed at judged musicales, with the exception of Baroque pieces such as preludes and fugues which must be performed together.

  4. Pieces performed can be classical, jazz or other genres but must be composed specifically for the instruments used. Simplified arrangements of any type of music are not acceptable at judged musicales. The chairperson will review and approve repertoire. Vocalists may submit songs from the popular repertoire or from musical theater. At judged musicales, students will wear recital attire (dresses or pantsuits, dress slacks and dress shirts, no sneakers).

  5. Students must provide one copy of the music for the judges, with measures numbered. Photocopies will not be accepted.

  6. Applications for judged musicales will be submitted using the online registration form and the non-refundable $15 payment will be made after registration via Paypal.
